Australia scrap day-night Test

Australia scrap day-night Test”

India have rejected Australia's request to play a day-night Test in Adelaide later this year, it was confirmed on Tuesday.

After Adelaide, Australia's four-match series against India moves to Perth Stadium - for the venue's maiden Test - before Melbourne and Sydney host the traditional Boxing Day and New Year Test matches.

According to the current ICC Playing Conditions, a home side can only hold a Day-Night Test "with the agreement of the Visiting Board".

India are scheduled to play a four-match Test series in Australia, with Adelaide hosting the first Test on December 6.

But before India can worry about the Australia test, they still have a one-off Test against Afghanistan. "Nobody can put a gun on to our head and say play (day-night cricket)".

The late start, finish and pink ball are still novelties in the five-day form of the game, and many believe that the day-night format is a way to revive interest in Test cricket in a cricketing era increasingly in thrall to the quick hits of Twenty20.

So, keeping the past record in mind, BCCI have decided that India will not play day-night Test and stick to the conventional form of Test cricket.

India have experimented with the pink ball in the domestic circuit but are sceptical about playing their first global day-night test overseas in such a high-profile series.

That the Adelaide event will be a day-only affair is a blow for new broadcast rights holders, Channel Seven and Fox Sports, for this will be the first test the networks cover.

"We are omitted to hosting at least one Day-Night Test each home summer as part of our continued focus to grow Test cricket, and we are excited about the Day-Night Test against Sri Lanka at the Gabba in January", it added.

"I think everyone in world cricket knows that, to be frank, I think (India) want to come out here and beat us", Sutherland told Australia's SEN Radio in early May.

In contrast, Sri Lanka happily agreed to play the Aussies in a day-night Test at the Gabba later in January.
