New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman Resigns Amid Assault Allegations

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman Resigns Amid Assault Allegations”

Prosecutors in multiple jurisdictions will investigate the assault allegations that led to the resignation of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, authorities said Tuesday.

Eric Schneiderman made fighting against sexual abuse and harassment a signature issue, first as a state senator and then as New York's attorney general.

The fast, hard fall of the powerful is nothing new in ny.

"Taking a strong woman and tearing her to pieces is his jam", Manning Barish told The New Yorker.

More: Eric Schneiderman resigned amid violence accusations.

But the "rough sex defense" gained notoriety under that name after being used in a high-profile trial in NY in the 1980s.

Prior to that, Underwood served as counsel and chief assistant to the US Attorney for the Eastern District of NY, according to her online biography, and has argued 20 cases before the US Supreme Court.

"The attorney general is looking at a possible criminal investigation if the DA decides to go that way", Cuomo said during a press briefing Tuesday.

Mr. Schneiderman was in a position of power where he represented the people of NY, by committing these bad acts he broke the public trust. He said that the NYPD would work with Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr.to reach out to alleged victims.

Before his resignation announcement, Schneiderman released a statement that said: "In the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity".

A spokesperson for Cuomo did not respond to Fox News' request for comment as to when the governor learned of the allegations against Schneiderman. "Prominent men in powerful positions are being outed as sexual harassers, and this is one of them", says Gerald Benjamin, a political scientist at SUNY-New Paltz.

In the New Yorker investigation, two former girlfriends of Schneiderman's allege that he himself choked them.

Both women said the incidents often occurred after Mr Schneiderman had been drinking. "I always believed elected officials should be held to a higher ethical standard".

"The Senate can not turn a blind eye to an act of domestic violence, a crime for which the state of NY has a zero-tolerance policy, and an attempt to evade responsibility for such a crime through dishonesty and bullying".

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said in a statement to The Sun: "States are protecting their people, values and economy, and that will continue as leaders throughout the country continue to emerge to resist and persist".

"I'm flattered that people would think I could be trusted with that important positon", Gianaris said. I could not remain silent and encourage other women to be courageous for me.

That hypocrisy - professing to defend women while secretly, according to The New Yorker article, beating them - seemed particularly rank.

Schneiderman, who built his reputation as a courtroom foe of President Donald Trump, a tough enforcer of Wall Street and a self-styled advocate for women, announced his decision late Monday in response to a New Yorker article that outlined claims of abuse, including violent slapping and choking. "Gotcha", Conway tweeted. But neither mentioned the collective efforts of Democratic attorney generals to challenge the president.
