Delhi, UP, Haryana Brace For Thunderstorms Today”

As a precautionary measure, the Delhi government has announced that all evening schools across the national capital would remain closed on Tuesday (08.05.2018).

Last week, 124 people died and more than 300 people were injured in the incidents of storms and lightning in 5 states of India, including Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh.

The Delhi Metro has also made a decision to exercise extreme caution in running trains. According to the official, there is a possibility of rains and strong winds in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Western Uttar Pradesh too.

The Indian Meteorological department (IMD) has issued a warning for a thunderstorm with squall at isolated places over various parts of north India. The one parking or stopping was advised to keep away from electrical wires above their heads, tinned roofs, as they can come off due to strong wind, trees etc. The advisory said commuters should "keep themselves updated about the weather conditions and plan their journey accordingly". In every district of Delhi, search and rescue teams have been put on standby. "No train will enter platforms with a speed of more than 15 kmph", a metro official told PTI.

Meanwhile, duststorm has hit many places in Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions and isolated areas in Jaipur, Ajmer and Kota regions of Rajasthan, affecting normal life.

The Delhi Traffic Police asked people to take precautions while commuting, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said it was on alert for heavy rain.

"The intensity of the thunderstorm would be much lesser". Dhaulpur witnessed damage to 1,000 poles, 75 transformers and 138 feeders.

Schools have been asked to remain close in Ghaziabad and Meerut.

With the shift, weather conditions across northern states including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan are likely to return to normal, while thunderstorms are expected at isolated places in the north-eastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Heavy rain is likely on Tuesday over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and south Karnataka, it said.
