Amazon adding 3000 high-tech jobs with Vancouver tech hub expansion

Amazon adding 3000 high-tech jobs with Vancouver tech hub expansion”

"It's great news for Boston that Amazon is expanding its footprint in the Seaport, bringing new jobs and economic opportunities to our city", Mayor Marty Walsh said in a statement, CBS4 reported.

In an April 30 release of his own, Trudeau called Amazon's announcement "a testament to Canada's highly-skilled, diverse workforce and tremendous potential as an innovation and tech hub".

Justin Trudeau was in Vancouver Monday as Amazon announced it's adding 3,000 new jobs to its west coast office. "We are proud to champion these companies, who invest in our talent and the future of our economy, and create new opportunities for Canadians to succeed". Amazon already has 6,000 Canadian employees. Amazon noted that its Boston-based machine learning scientists and engineers have played a key role in building Alexa's conversational AI through cutting-edge research and developments in machine learning.

Amazon will expand into 430,000 square feet in WS Development's Seaport project - a 7.6 million square feet development transforming along the waterfront - and plans to open the doors of its new office in 2021.

Along with an office in the Back Bay, a robotics facility in North Reading and a massive distribution center in Fall River, the company has added 3,500 jobs in MA since 2011, with these 2,000 more to come.

Mr. Trudeau said there are many reasons why industry giants such as Amazon choose to settle and grow in Canada.

Amazon, which employs more than 1,000 people in Vancouver, in November announced a lease that, from 2020, would give the company space for an additional 2,000 workers.

Boston is one of 20 cities on the finalist list for Amazon's second headquarters.

"Are we going to have people that Amazon is going to be able to hire, and I say absolutely yes", Simon Fraser University cloud computing professor Bill Klug said.
