Xi extends Int'l Workers' Day greetings to workers nationwide”

In India, Labour Day is a public holiday held on every 1 May.

Labour Day originates in the late 19 century when trade unions and labour movements began growing in the US.

In Nepal, various trade union organisations are making preparations for celebrating the day.

It was in 1904 when the Sixth Conference of the Second International, a labour rights group operating in the U.S. called for trade unions of all countries to hold demonstrations on First of May while demanding the legal establishment of an 8-hour working day and the class demands of the proletariat.

The beginning was made on May 1, 1886 in the USA when unions conduct unofficial national strike, which involved over 300,000 workers across the country demanding the introduction of an official eight-hour day. It was the Labour Kisan Party who had organised the May Day celebrations in Chennai (then Madras). The need for more stringent labour laws in India can be easily justified by the Global Rights Index of 2017 that ranks India as one of the worst countries for working people. Labour Day is known as "Kamgar Din" in Hindi, "Karmikara Dinacharane" in Kannada,"Karmika Dinotsavam in Telugu, "Kamgar Divas" in Marathi, "Uzhaipalar dhinam" in Tamil, and "Thozhilaali Dinam" in Malayalam".

Since then, May 1 has become a time for demonstrations and protests, but also national holidays in countries such as Russian Federation and China.

However, because May Day 2018 is actually a Tuesday, the 2018 Early May Bank Holiday will be on May 7.

In his letter, Xi extended greetings to all workers in the country and spoke highly of the contributions that the model workers have made to the development of the Party and the nation.

She also desired justifiable remuneration and social security for the workers for establishment of the appropriate industrial relations, as reported in the Kathmandu Post. The logos are hyperlinked to a page that provides the reader with more information about the cultural event being celebrated.

Google is celebrating "International Labour Day" with its purple-coloured doodle, which includes rubber gloves, stethoscope, safety helmets, batteries, nuts and bolts, painting roll-ons, wires, glasses to light torches.
