Senate panel approves Mike Pompeo for Secretary of State

Senate panel approves Mike Pompeo for Secretary of Stateā€

"Pompeo passes that test and merits approval".

Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Monday night all but ensures the confirmation of CIA Director Mike Pompeo as the nation's next Secretary of State, saddling LGBTQ activists with yet another defeat.

However, Senator Paul chose to vote to confirm Pompeo, despite his earlier misgivings, and is now catching heat from his base over that decision, given his repeated assertions that he would not vote to confirm the West Pointer as America's top diplomat.

"Pompeo also has solid knowledge of the world, [and] the discipline to oversee complex diplomacy..."

"This is not about policy difference", Sen. Yet she will not support Pompeo, a distinguished and qualified foreign policy heavyweight, because he is a conservative....

Generally speaking, the Senate has been quite deferential in confirming a President's choice for Secretary of State.

For better or worse, Mike Pompeo will be confirmed as the 70th Secretary of State by the end of this week. There is no doubt about that. "When you look at Mr. Pompeo's record, it's been one of militaristic point of view, one that [says] its alright for America to go alone".

Before he can take over the State Department, Mike Pompeo, President Trump's pick for secretary of state, needs to contend with rare opposition from the Senate panel that is supposed to consider his nomination.

"I understand the climate we are in".

As the ADL and left-leaning Jewish groups like the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC) have posed questions they would like asked of Pompeo regarding his affiliations with perceived anti-Muslim groups, several Orthodox organizations have spoken in his favor.

Kim expressed his intention to give up his nuclear weapons program while not asking for the withdrawal of USA forces. He has a degree from Harvard Law School and cofounded an aerospace manufacturing company. He built a successful business and, after his election to the House of Representatives from Kansas's Fourth District, established himself as a leader on foreign policy and national security issues.

While initially some of the unease over Pompeo's nomination to lead the State Department is due to his lack of experience in worldwide diplomacy, it's his affiliation with these groups that is leading headlines about the brewing nomination battle.

Unless a nominee has clear ethical or competency failings, presidents should be accorded wide latitude to select top aides whom they trust and agree with.
