Saudi drone enthusiasts to require permit after 'palace incident'

Saudi drone enthusiasts to require permit after 'palace incident'”

"Small, drone-type remote-controlled recreational aircraft was deployed without being authorized to do so, which required security personnel at the security point to deal with them in accordance with their orders and instructions in this regard".

The authorities have begun an inquiry into the circumstances of the drone flight, the Saudi Press Agency said.

Amateur footage circulating earlier on social media showed loud gunfire that lasted for at least 30 seconds.

But a source inside the Saudi palace told Mehr news agency that the Saudi security forces were fighting a group of armed forces around the palace in the capital Riyadh, using rifles like AK 47 and Heckler & Koch G3. Reports confirmed that King Salman was not inside the palace during the incident.

The announcement came after a toy drone was flown over a palace triggering heavy gunfire in the capital's Khozama district on Saturday. Reuters was unable to independently verify the videos' authenticity.

"The king was at his farm in Diriya", the official said, naming another area of Riyadh.

But the government ruled out any major security breach, adding that an investigation had been launched into the incident. Notable clerics also have been detained in a clear bid.

Marvel blockbuster Black Panther made history this week when it became one of the first films to screen in the the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since movie theaters were banned 35 years ago.

Those moves have helped MBS consolidate his position in a country where power had been shared among senior princes for decades and religious figures exercised significant influence on policy. Saudi Arabia claims to have intercepted a lot of them.
