BMW M2 Competition revealed

BMW M2 Competition revealed”

The BMW M2 coupe is without doubt, one of the most incredible creations to come out of the German carmakers stable in recent time. Shared with the BMW M3 saloon and M4 coupe, It's claimed to dramatically improve front-end stiffness for a more precise feel to the steering. That's enough to launch the auto from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.0 seconds with the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) or 4.2 seconds with the 6-speed manual, BMW says.

The new Competition is not an added trim to the M2 lineup but rather a full-on replacement for the M2.

This quad-exhaust system features electronically-controlled flaps that can be open, or closed, from the cockpit to alter the volume of the engine, the website reports.

So what is the M2 Competition?

Either way, the top speed is limited to 155mph unless you opt for the M Driver's package, which takes it to 173mph. BMW outfits the M2 Competition with 15.7-inch front discs with six-piston calipers and 15-inch rear discs with four-piston calipers versus the 2018 model's 15-inch front rotors with four-piston calipers and 14.6-inch rears with two-piston calipers. Seen from the front, the M2 presents new mirrors, a new kidney grille and a new front apron with larger air intakes. The standard 6-speed manual transmission has rev match technology for smoother gear changes. These include larger air intakes and a gloss black "kidney grille" at the front, along with new wing mirrors and black inserts on the side of the vehicle. The former option also comes with three Drivelogic programs - Comfort, Sport and Sport+.

Harnessing the extra power is a new carbon fibre under-bonnet brace from the M3 and M4, which works with the M4's bulkhead strut to significantly increase rigidity at the front of the vehicle, improving steering behaviour and precision. But BMW adds that the Competition's performance on wet or slippery roads is also improved, thanks in part to an Active M Differential.

The key changes to the outside are a new skirt that's been designed with maximum air-flow and cooling in mind, and a high-gloss black grille.

Though black is the standard colour for the interior, including the perforated leather seats (and the optional sports variants), you can choose between blue and orange stitching for a little pizzazz.

M Sport seats are standard and have an illuminated M2 logo on the backrests.

Standard safety and driver aid technology includes a forward collision system with automatic braking and pedestrian detection, and a lane departure warning.

A new BMW M2 has been a subject among fans of the German automaker and now they don't have to wait any longer.
