Man thought to be Canada's worst serial killer faces 8th murder charge

Man thought to be Canada's worst serial killer faces 8th murder chargeā€

McArthur, who is 66, has been charged with first degree murder in the death of 37-year-old Scarborough resident Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam, who is believed to have been killed in 2015.

Three additional positive identifications have been made on the seven sets of human remains recovered in large planters at a home where McArthur, a self-employed landscaper, stored work materials.

He went on to say the victim was from Sri Lanka and may have been visiting extended family in Canada.

Unlike the other victims, there is no prior evidence linking Kanagaratnam to Toronto's Gay Village, Idsinga said.

Police said last week that they had identified the victim but did not release the name until today. After receiving assistance from an unnamed worldwide government agency, Idsinga said police were able to identify the victim.

"He doesn't quite fit the profile of what we've seen before", Idsinga said.

McArthur is now charged with eight counts of first-degree murder.

Last week, McArthur was charged in the death of 42-year-old Abdulbasir Faizi, who disappeared from the gay village in 2010.

Kanagratnam is the second alleged victim of McArthur's who was an immigrant from Sri Lanka. The photo, which seems to be of a deceased man, was found on McArthur's computer during the police investigation.

Idsinga said Kanagaratnam, who was identified with the help of an unnamed worldwide agency, was allegedly killed between September and December 2015.

Idsinga said investigators are looking into 15 other cold cases dating back to the 1975, but have not found a connection.
