Bon Jovi reunites in Cleveland to enter Rock & Roll Hall of Fame”

The rock-heavy 2018 list marks a return to the roots of the U.S. Hall of Fame, which for the past two years has broadened its base to include rap artists such as the late Tupac Shakur and N.W.A.

With that, Bon Jovi then delivered what might have been the longest speech in recent Rock Hall induction history.

The Moody Blues started in R&B but shifted gears sharply with 1967's concept album "Days of Future Passed".

Soul legend Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the gospel inspiration for early rockers, both of whom were posthumously inducted, and British rockers Dire Straits rounded out the 2018 Hall of Fame class.

Bon Jovi were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last night (April 15) at a ceremony in Cleveland.

A flawless Brittany Howard, of the critically acclaimed rock act Alabama Shakes, gave an extraordinary Tharpe impression onstage, winning over the audience with her rousing live performance in honor of the godmother of rock "n" roll. Now that the Induction Ceremony will be taking place every other year in the Rock Hall City, fans can look forward to the 35th affair when acts such as Weezer, Oasis, Daft Punk and Usher are eligible.

Jon Bon Jovi opened his band's performance with an exhortation.

Bon Jovi, who have sold more than 120 million albums and launched multiple No. 1 hits, was first nominated in 2011. Dire Straits, The Moody Blues and Sister Rosetta Tharpe also are being enshrined.

After being inducted by DJ Howard Stern, frontman Jon said: 'I've been writing a speech like this since I first strummed a broom and sang from the top of the stairs of my childhood home.

The Cars members bass player John Illsley and keyboardists Alan Clark and Guy Fletcher were at the ceremony, but frontman Mark Knopfler was absent.

Simone, who died in 2003, was welcomed into the Rock corridor at a radical way from performers who has deeply motivated, from Lauryn Hill and Andra Day into Mary J. Blige. The event also saw the band's reunion with former member Richie Sambora, who shared a microphone with the band's lead singer on 'When We Were Us'.

Overall, while this year's Induction Ceremony didn't have the star power of previous evenings held in Cleveland, the high-profile event had its moments.

According to USA Today, Howard Stern said of the group's rise to fame, "Aside from the incredible music accomplishments, they are some of the nicest men I ever met, humble and gracious".
