Seahawks postpone Kaepernick workout over kneelingā€

Colin Kaepernick is not backing down about taking a knee to protest racial injustice in the U.S.

Thursday's revelation is particularly notable given that Kaepernick is now suing the NFL, alleging that team owners and NFL executives colluded to keep him out of the league.

Kaepernick famously began sitting out national anthems in 2016, in protest over the United States government's treatment of people of color domestically and overseas. "There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder".

Three NFL owners are on the deposition list for Kaepernick's lawsuit: Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys, Robert Kraft of the New England Patriots and Bob McNair of the Houston Texans.

We're told Kaepernick would not agree to that stipulation - so the Seahawks called off the workout, despite the fact travel plans had already been arranged.

The Seahawks have been known for letting players be themselves. Kaepernick, who nearly won a Super Bowl in 2013, may not be the same player he once was, but he is more experienced than a drafted rookie would be.

The Seattle Times reported that the decision wasn't exclusively related to Kaepernick's stance on kneeling, but that the team wanted a firmer plan about his activism and how it might impact football. "He's not going to have a big a market as you may think, but the anthem issue was brought up, has been reported about with him, now with Colin Kaepernick, so clearly this is not going away".

Kaepernick had been scheduled this week for a workout with the team - which has been eyeing him as a potential backup for Russell Wilson.

Kaepernick, then with the San Francisco 49ers, started the movement of National Football League players kneeling during the Star Spangled Banner in the 2016 preseason over racial inequality and oppression in the United States. Several teams, coaches and executives were supposed to be interviewed during the process, including the Seahawks.

The former Pro Bowler safety previously said he is not planning on protesting in 2018. During his visit, owner Mike Brown would question Reid about his anthem protests.

Reid, reportedly put off, declined to commit one way or the other and left without a contract offer.
