Houthis target defence ministry in Riyadh; Saudi intercepts missiles”

As the announcement on the missile interceptions emerged, Malki also said in a separate statement that Saudi air defenses had shot down two unmanned Yemeni drones Wednesday in southern Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabian military intercepted at least one missile above the capital Riyadh on Wednesday, Saudi-owned broadcaster Al Arabiya said.

While Saudi Arabia and its allies have been able to recover areas in southern Yemen from the Houthis, the rebels still control the capital Sana'a and territories in the north.

Videos published on social media showed clouds of smoke in the sky above the capital.

Al Masirah also reported the Houthis fired missiles at oil storage facilities belonging to Saudi oil giant Aramco in the provinces of Najran and Jizan.

The Saudi-led coalition has been fighting to reinstate the internationally-recognized government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi who was forced into exile by the Houthis.

The group unveiled what it said was a series of drones, including the Qasef-1, at a ceremony previous year.

"The air drive launched the execution of air strikes with the Qasif 1 aircraft on Aramco in Jizan (province)", al-Masirah said on its official Twitter account, consistent with Reuters.

The coalition accuses the Houthis of being armed and supported by Iran - charges the group and Tehran deny. Saudi authorities say over the past three years 90 ballistic missiles were fired by the rebels.
