Trump vows action on Syria chemical attack

Trump vows action on Syria chemical attackā€

"And it will be met, and it will be met forcefully".

Brand new National Security Adviser John Bolton reported to work at the White House Monday morning and was greeted with a giant crisis.

U.S. President Donald Trump says his administration will likely say "after the fact" how it chose to respond to a suspected chemical attack on the outskirts of Syria's capital.

Mr. Trump yesterday promised a rapid decision on action, as "we can not allow atrocities like that". Pressed Monday on whether those plans still stand, Trump simply told reporters: "We're gonna make a decision on all of that, in particular Syria, we'll be making that decision very quickly, probably by the end of today".

"Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria", tweeted Trump, "President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad".

French President Emmanuel Macron has also threatened to strike Syria if the government uses chemical weapons against ordinary people.

Separately, on Monday, with tensions high over the alleged chemical attack, Syria and Russian Federation accused Israel of deadly missile strikes on a Syrian regime air base.

In the aftermath of the chemical weapons attacks, however, Trump has used a decidedly different tone, lashing out at Iran and Russian Federation for supporting "Animal Assad" and hinting at a "big price" that will be paid.

Trump said it will take roughly twenty-four hours for the United States to determine which party was responsible for the alleged chemical attack.

A Syria medical relief group said that at least 60 people were killed and more than 1,000 injured at several sites in the attack on Douma on Saturday. The politician, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about secret military movements, said the atmosphere and USA statements hint at a possible strike, "but there are no indications on the ground so far".

The situation is being discussed on Monday by the UN Security Council - a group of countries that work together to try to bring peace - and the European Union has called for an "immediate response by the worldwide community".

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said in February that Britain should consider joining military action against Assad's regime if there is fresh "incontrovertible" evidence he has used chemical weapons against his own people.

The US-sponsored draft "condemns in the strongest terms the continued use of chemical weapons" and also stipulates that measures might be taken against Syria under the UN Charter Chapter 7, which paves the way for the use of force.

"But I think we really need to find out as quickly as we can what the hallmarks of this attack were, and I do believe that we will be able to figure out if it was an attack by the Assad regime", Shea told VOA.

Syrian state media has denied the government had any involvement in the suspected attack. "Especially when we're able to - because of the power of the United States, because of the power of our country, we're able to stop it", Mr. Trump said.

Damascus has denied the allegations, and Russian Federation has said there is no evidence of a chemical attack.

"This is about humanity - it can't be allowed to happen", he said.

Earlier Monday, Syria accused Israeli warplanes of attacking a Syrian airfield in Homs province.

Mattis said that the U.S.is "working with our allies and partners from North Atlantic Treaty Organisation to Qatar and elsewhere, we are going to address this issue".

The White House says the U.S.is not conducting any airstrikes in Syria. Trump promised a response even if his administration decides that Russian Federation is responsible.
