Fiji wins 4th straight Hong Kong 7s beating Kenya in final

Fiji wins 4th straight Hong Kong 7s beating Kenya in final”

The Sevens World Series Qualifier is also underway in Hong Kong, with Africa's Uganda and Zimbabwe competing for a place on the World Sevens Series circuit.

Famed for a party atmosphere nearly unrivaled in the world of sport, Fiji enjoys the annual trip to Hong Kong more than most.

This is the second time this season that Shujaa have lost to Fiji in a Cup final following the 32-12 defeat last month at the Canada Sevens in Vancouver.

The Pacific island remains to be reeling from the devastating affect of Cyclone Josie final week.

Making an appearance in the Hong Kong semis for the first time, Kenya was drawn against third-placed New Zealand while South Africa faced Fiji in the other semi-final match. Local media reported four people had been killed, while thousands of homes were flooded.

"I'd like to thank my boys for the team effort and thank the Kenyan team for a good game", said Fiji captain Jerry Tuwai.

But two yellow cards late in the first half left them with five men, and Fiji pounced with an Amenoni Nasilasila try that made the score 17-0 at the half.

South Africa beat New Zealand 29-7 to take the bronze medal, whereas Argentina edged US 14-12 to safe fifth.

For reaching the finals, Kenya earned 19 points which brings their HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series total points to 83.

It paid off after a scorching final day that saw them first pushed to the limit by a spirited and youthful South Africa in winning their semi-final 26-24.

New Zealand fronted with a second-string team including six debutants with their top lineup in Australia preparing for next weekend's Commonwealth Games tournament.

Before joining the series they will contest the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco on July 20-22 as one of the two Asian qualifiers.
