Blaze At Trump Tower In New York Kills One Civilian, Injures Firefighters”

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) advised that an apartment resident had suffered serious injuries.

Brassner was unconscious and unresponsive when firefighters pulled him out, the New York Police Department said.

But Trump Tower was not required to have sprinklers because it was built 15 years prior to the rules, and Trump never did install sprinklers on the residential floors of the building. Daily Mail reported, however, that the fire was declared under control at around 7:45 p.m.

The president tweeted a thank you to first responders on Saturday shortly after the fire started, praising the integrity of his building. "Members pushed in heroically, they were knocking down the fire and found one occupant of the apartment", Daniel Nigro, Commissioner of the New York City Fire Department, said.

"The fire was a hard fire".

The FDNY arrived at the Fifth Ave. high rise just before 6 p.m.

Firefighters reported smoke throughout tower and inspected Trump's residence but did not say if it was damaged. The Medical Examiner's office will determine the cause of death.

Nigro described the dwelling as "quite large" and said it had "quite a lot of furniture and quite a lot of fire load".

The bill was later passed in March 1999 allowing buildings built before that year to not have sprinklers unless there were major renovations.

Four of the 200 firefighters who battled the blaze suffered minor injuries.

Trump continued to tweet through the evening, but never again referenced the fire, and never referenced the deceased or the tenant. Firemen (and women) did a great job.

There are reportedly no fire sprinklers on the upper floors of the building, but the Post wrote they're not required by law in buildings of that age (Trump Tower opened in 1983).

"We found fire on the 50th floor of the building".

Some residents said they didn't get any notification from building management to leave the building.
