Democrats Claim Victory In Wisconsin's Supreme Court Race”

Liberal candidate and a Milwaukee County judge, Rebecca Dallet who received the backing of former Vice President Joe Biden and support of former attorney general Eric Holder's National Democratic Redistricting Committee, was proclaimed the victor in Wisconsin State Supreme Court race Tuesday night.

Liberal Rebecca Dallet has easily defeated conservative Michael Screnock in a Wisconsin Supreme Court race seen as the latest bellwether of voter attitudes ahead of the November election.

"Tonight's results show we are at risk of a #BlueWave in WI".

Walker, who is seeking a third term in November, issued a fundraising plea Wednesday morning and along with several tweets that Republicans should prepare for a tough election year - a similar warning Walker issued after a Democrat won a special Senate election in a northwest Wisconsin district Republicans had held since 2001.

'Big government special interests flooded Wisconsin with distorted facts & misinformation. Next, they'll target me and work to undo our bold reforms.

Walker and his team campaigned heavily for Screnock, while the National Rifle Association backed him as a "committed judge who will interpret the Constitution the way our Founding Fathers intended".

Martha Laning, director of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, cast the Dallet victory was a referendum on Walker since he had endorsed her opponent in the officially nonpartisan race. Dallet-who received support from former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder, former Vice President Joe Biden, and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker-ran attack ads on President Donald Trump.

Wisconsin's Supreme Court races haven't always been reliable predictors of elections later in the year. Her win narrows the pro-Walker conservative majority on the court to 4 to 3 - and marks the first win by a liberal to an open seat since 1995.

One of the Democratic challengers to Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, of Wisconsin, immediately tried to raise money off the Dallet win.

Dallet has been a Milwaukee County circuit judge since 2008 and prior to that was a prosecutor for more than a decade.

Dallet, 48, will become the sixth woman on the court. "I think people are exhausted of what's been going on in our state in terms of the money coming in to buy these elections and people spoke out tonight". I wish Judge Dallet well, and I sincerely hope she serves us well on the court.

Before becoming a judge at the County Circuit Court, Dallet served as an assistant district attorney with the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office and as an adjunct professor of law at Marquette University Law School.

He said a Dallet win 'would send a message that we're not kidding around here and maybe to borrow an axiom from the right: We're going to take our country back'. Trump and Republican-backed Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley both won their 2016 races outside Dane and Milwaukee counties by 15 percentage points.

Screnock, 48, was appointed judge by Walker in 2015.
