Pet parents also had the chance to pick up raffle prizes and goodie bags filled with dog treats and supplies throughout the egg hunt.

The Duck Derby festivities kick-off at 10 a.m. with an Easter Egg hunt on Lake Gregory's south shore.

"Some of them are in wheelchairs, some of them can't be very mobile", Dan Cox with Krewe of St. Andrews said. "This kind of event is great for her to get out and be a part of something that other kids who do not have a visual impairment get to be a part of", she said.

3,000 Easter eggs were hunted at Northwest Middle School.

"We had a brainstorming session one day and said 'Easter is coming up, why not do something for the kids, '" explained Dingwall.

The egg hunt brought him and many others out to play.

"We had 268 children who registered to take part this year", said Dingwall.

"I am so amazed with the Krewe of St. Andrews. My own children used to go to the egg hunt, so I'm glad to be able to help now", said volunteer Kathleen Merchlinski. Only one golden egg per child.

Some eggs had tickets inside which could be traded in for a prize of their choice at the prize booth.

After a successful hunt, Jessica Mitchell sat in the grass looking through egg baskets with her four-year-old son Paxton Mitchell, and her 11-month-old son Kyle Mitchell.

Kids take off running to gather as much candy as they can and then eat it.

This is sad because a 25-year tradition has come to an end.

The Easter Bunny, with help from the staff of the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks Department and the 2017 Tehachapi Queens Court, placed over 6,000 eggs this year for the children to find.

Prizes ranged from candy to small toys to entire Easter baskets. She said the Easter Bunny was also available for pictures.

The operations manager of the asylum, Rebecca Gleason, said this event is all about the community.

Between 35 and 40 city staff members turned out to make the egg hunt happen.
