Connecticut Rep. Esty not seeking re-election

Connecticut Rep. Esty not seeking re-election”

"Unfortunately, through the review process I learned that threat of violence was not an isolated incident, but part of a pattern of behavior that victimized numerous women on my staff".

Esty reportedly kept former chief of staff Tony Baker on staff for three months before he was sacked in 2016, despite having learned that he'd left a threatening voicemail for another former staffer, Anna Kain.

Citing "the spirit of transparency", Esty is asking the House Ethics Committee to review the 2016 incident and determine "whether there was any wrongdoing on my part".

Lt. Governor Wyman said, "I think this is the right decision and I thank Congresswoman Esty for her many years of service to the residents of the fifth district and the State of CT".

In November, Senate Al Franken initially called for a Senate Ethics Committee investigation into himself after various reports accused him of sexual misconduct.

CT U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty, a Democrat, announced Monday she won't seek re-election amid calls for her resignation over her handling of a sexual harassment case involving her former chief of staff. By his last day on August 12, according to documents Esty provided to The Post, he and Esty had co-written a positive recommendation letter he could use in a job search and signed a legal document preventing her from disparaging him or discussing why he left.

Baker also allegedly punched Kain, but he has denied that much.

"The congresswoman failed her staff on every level when she chose to protect an alleged abuser instead of them", Flexer said.

Baker is alleged to have verbally and physically assaulted the junior staffer, and went on to receive a small severance payment and letter of recommendation when he left Esty's office, according to news reports.

The state's representative from the 5th district, Elizabeth Esty, said Monday she wanted an expedited ethics committee inquiry into her actions following improper behavior by her former chief of staff. She said she would use her remaining time in office to advocate for stronger protections for employees in Congress and other workplaces.

"I can only hope that my actions moving forward and over a lifetime of recovery can prove that I am a better man than I was during the time that I worked on Capitol Hill", Mr. Baker said in a statement provided by Mr. Ricci on Monday. "It certainly was far from a flawless process - and I would appreciate their advice, counsel, and review".

Esty's decision not to run can help democrats, if she can survive the next seven months. "I feel terribly for the victim of abuse".

Ms. Esty failed at job No. 1: Doing what's right.

Flexer acknowledged later in the interview that Esty has been a "champion on a lot of issues important to women", but she said that Esty's failure to protect her staff is "too egregious" for her to get past and that it is time for her to step down. Elizabeth knows she handled the dismissal of her former Chief of Staff badly.

Governor Malloy said, "Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty's decision not to run for another term is the right one".
