SpaceX launches 10 satellites into orbit on Falcon 9 rocket

SpaceX launches 10 satellites into orbit on Falcon 9 rocket”

The rocket lifted off at 7:13 a.m. PT Friday and arced over the Pacific west of Los Angeles.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 launcher rocketed into orbit Friday from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, climbing away from a hillside launch complex just after sunrise with 10 Iridium communications satellites.

This Falcon 9 first stage rocket previously launched the CRS-12 mission to the International Space Station from Cape Canaveral, Florida on August 14, 2017.

SpaceX launched another rocket on Friday March 30, and fans waited with bated breath to find out that the company was not successful on landing the $6 million nose cone into a giant seaborne net.

.

It is, however, expected to try to recover the rocket's "fairing, " or nosecone, using a large ship dubbed Mr. Steven, which is outfitted with a large netting.

Elon Musk, SpaceX's founder and chief executive, said via Twitter that the air wake from the fairing's descent interfered with the steering on an attached parafoil. "The new satellites and services we're launching and continued strong subscriber growth are cementing our position as an industry leader and critical global communications platform and underscore the significant transformation we've undergone as a company over the last 10 years".

The 10 Iridium satellites will begin to deploy an hour after launch. Once the launches are complete, there will be a total of 75 next-generation Iridium satellites in orbit. You can also assemble a rocket in a game-like AR interactive for an up-close look at what it takes to launch and land a rocket. During today's launch, the company will attempt to catch the fairing again.

Musk has noted that the fairing returns to Earth "at about eight times the speed of sound".

The company has a high-speed ship with an enormous net structure created to catch half of a fairing as it descends under a parafoil.

What makes this launch extra special is that it was carried out by a used Falcon 9 rocket.

Desch quickly followed up Tuesday evening, saying in a tweet "there has been a technical resolution" to the problem and the launch was now be set for Friday.
