Mamata Banerjee says huge difference in NDA under Narendra Modi and Vajpayee

Mamata Banerjee says huge difference in NDA under Narendra Modi and Vajpayeeā€¯

Reports say Mamata also met DMK leader K Kanimozhi and K Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

The West Bengal chief minister further said that she can meet Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav if they call her to Lucknow.

"Delhi is a part of India and I visit the capital whenever Parliament is in session".

Asked whether she would be meeting Pawar, Banerjee said, "We (TMC) have 46 MPs (including 12 Rajya Sabha members) there".

They may have been reduced to less that 50 seats in the Lok Sabha, but Congress is still a national party and seen as principle opposition to the BJP.

There also have been efforts to form a third front of parties that want to be equidistant from both BJP and Congress. "All opposition parties should work together". The two parties are said to be discussing a possible alliance for 2019. "But I will speak to her before I leave if there is an opportunity as she is not keeping well", Mamata Banerjee said. No one will be allowed to organise processions in the area of another community and murder a person, she said.

Mamata, who was in New Delhi to meet NCP chief Sharad Pawar and other opposition leaders, said, "There is a huge difference between NDA of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and now".

Mamata Banerjee will meet rebel BJP leaders Shatrughan Sinha, Yashwant Sinha and former Union minister Arun Shourie on Wednesday in a move which is being seen as a bid to assemble forces against the BJP, in the run up to the 2019 general elections. Replying to a query, Banerjee said she has been exchanging messages with Rahul Gandhi According to a senior NCP leader, Banerjee favoured forming a "federal front" to defeat the BJP without involving the Congress. She feels that if the Congress becomes a part of the opposition front, then many parties like the BJD, TDP would not join the alliance.

She also attacked the Narendra Modi government at the Centre during her press briefing and said that the NDA regime has lost its credibility due to its faulty decision of implementing the GST and notes ban. There are of course a lot of different views on what kind of approach should be taken.

Ms Banerjee had skipped dinner meet of 19 opposition parties hosted by Sonia Gandhi earlier this month but had nominated her colleague Sudip Bandyopadhyay for the same. "The Lok Sabha election of 2019 will certainly be very interesting", Banerjee told reporters after the meeting with Raut.
