STUDENT WALKOUT: 80 rally at Wellington High School

STUDENT WALKOUT: 80 rally at Wellington High School”

One can see Scot Peterson, the armed deputy assigned to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the site of the shooting, in the damning video. "We're going to keep fighting, and we're not going to stop until Congress finally makes resolute changes". The young girl asked, if a shooter will come during the staging of the protests, because that way they will be able to shoot at a lot of people.

Berry says, "I was over there and I was singing with my friends and I was crying because I could just think you know I don't want to be a statistic nobody wants to be a statistic".

Some issued specific demands for lawmakers, including mandatory background checks for all gun sales and a ban on assault weapons like the one used in the Florida bloodbath.

A teacher from room 1216 also called for help and told the 911 operator that a student had been hit in the chest, and wasn't breathing.

As the demonstrations unfolded, the NRA responded by posting a photo on Twitter of a black rifle emblazoned with an American flag. By allowing the NRA lobbyists to set the standard for gun control conversations we are handing power to them...

At a high school in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, students marched to the football field and assembled in a heart formation to pay tribute to the victims. President Trump was out of town.

In New York City, they chanted, "Enough is enough!"

The school system didn't indicate whether the sign would have been approved had it been submitted under the guidelines.

One-by-one, 17 students offered a prayer and a memory for each of the 17 lives list in the Parkland, Florida school shooting.

Students Dylan Baxter, a senior, and Elizabeth Gailey, a junior, said they hope the walkout leads to more talks between school administration, parents and students on what the district can do to tighten safety procedures.

Another nationwide student-inspired protest, the March For Our Lives, is to be held on March 24.

"We teach our students to be independent thinkers", Janet Conner-Knox, who handles public relations for Wilson Preparatory Academy. told CNN.

Trump momentarily signaled support for curbing access to guns, notably by raising the age for purchases from 18 to 21, but now stands accused of bowing to the NRA.

Exchanging a walkout with words, students say, was a way for them to show support without any other agenda.

"I've witnessed so many mass shootings, too many", said Reed.

About 900 students from Sumter School District's three high schools chose to participate in National Walkout Day on Wednesday with peaceful demonstrations at each school.

He received support from people all across the political spectrum, he said.

Wednesday's coordinated protests were organized by Empower, the youth wing of the Women's March, which brought thousands to Washington past year.

In front of the main entrance to Highlands Ranch High School stood about 100 students. "We were all scared that everyone was being killed, because people were throwing desks to barricade and it sounded like gunshots", North Bend student Olivia Funk said.

"As we saw the Parkland kids start to speak out, there was a sense that something about the aftermath of this shooting had to be different".

Some students - mostly freshmen and sophomores - made their way out of the school through the main lobby entrance by the flagpole, while a majority of students walked through the school, past the main office, behind the cafeteria and out of the south side of the building.

Some adult community members joined in, carrying signs that read "We are listening" and "I care about your safety and will resist the NRA".
