Elon Musk Says Flights to Mars Will Start in 2019

Elon Musk Says Flights to Mars Will Start in 2019”

The spacecraft would ultimately be able to make missions to the Moon or Mars, Musk said.

About an hour into the presentation, a third chair was brought on stage and Kimbal Musk, Elon's brother and an entrepreneur in the food-access space, joined in - wearing a cowboy hat and with a guitar in tow.

The rocket meant to make this voyage isn't the Falcon 9 or even the Falcon Heavy rocket, but a newer model that SpaceX is still putting together called the BFR - officially short for "Big Falcon Rocket", but since the name was partly inspired by Doom's BFG weapon, it's probably not unintentional if you first saw that acronym a different way.

Musk, who also founded auto company Tesla, said conflict is welded into mankind's history.

"Some AI experts think they know more than they do and they think they're smarter than they are. this tends to plague smart people, they define themselves by their intelligence and they don't like the idea that a machine can be way smarter than them so they just discount the idea, which is fundamentally flawed". Once there, Musk spoke about the show but also touched on more personal topics such as balancing the good and bad aspects of his life.

Getting to that point hasn't been easy - he said early on that SpaceX nearly didn't survive.

Musk, who was being filmed by National Geographic as the rocket launched from the Kennedy Space Center, was astounded as he watched the flight. "If the fourth launch had failed, we would have been dead", he said.

Space X founder Elon Musk has declared his Mars space ship will start test flights next year.

Musk also said once SpaceX's ship is built, he imagines it as a proofpoint for national space programs that will then "up their game and build interplanetary vehicles as well". "We have to figure out some way to ensure that the advent of digital superintelligence is one which is symbiotic with humanity".

"I think it's unlikely that we'll never have a world war again", he said.

But hey, the salvation of humanity might just come with Martian pizza joints.
