Uber Health To Make Patients' Journeys Easier In US Cities

Uber Health To Make Patients' Journeys Easier In US Cities”

On Monday, Lyft announced a new partnership with Allscripts, a large electronic health record company that reaches an estimate 7 million patients. For the 3.6 million patients across USA cities who miss or postpone their scheduled appointments due to transportation issues, no-show rates are as high as 30 percent.

Lyft will integrate its proprietary API into Allscripts Sunrise EHR system to incorporate non-emergency transportation services directly into physician workflows.

Numerous providers took part during the beta program that included Thundermist Heath Center and Yale New Haven Health, Adams Clinical, Renown Health, Blood Centers of the Pacific, Project Open Hand, Georgetown Home Care, ProActive Work Health Services, LifeBridge Health, Pro Staff Physical Therapy, MedStar Health, NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center and Manhattan Women's health. Using the same dashboard, multiple rides can be scheduled and managed at the same time.

In the past year alone, 3.6 million people in the United States missed healthcare appointments.

The firm hopes to do this by adding more partners and evolving its services 'until no one in this country ever misses out on critical care because they can't get a ride, ' Baga explained.

"Health IT should always put the patient first and this partnership is representative of Allscripts commitment to connecting communities and helping providers deliver services their patients need", said Allscripts CEO Paul Black.

The announcement comes on the heels of rival Uber's launch of Uber Health last Thursday.

Last week, Uber Health went live after an eight-month trial with 100 health care providers that tested the ride-hailing service as a way to ensure that eligible patients weren't no-shows for appointments.

Passengers don't need a smartphone or the Uber app in order to use the service because Uber Health sends riders notifications about their vehicle via text message.

Lyft's business arm had already established partnerships in 2016 for non-emergency transportation options, so the Allscripts integration builds on that.

The company stressed that Uber Health complies with HIPAA patient privacy laws. The platform pushes an SMS alert to passengers about the scheduled ride and the business provider typically covers the cost. The functionality will provide an easier way for patients without access to transportation to make it to doctors' appointments.
