Putin: Russia has thwarted hundreds of foreign spies

Putin: Russia has thwarted hundreds of foreign spies”

"We have been working on them for quite a long time", he said.

Putin made the comment during an interview with NBC's Megyn Kelly on Thursday.

USA intelligence agencies have accused Russian Federation of hacking and meddling in the 2016 presidential election, while European politicians have accused it of trying to interfere in several elections.

The special counsel is investigating whether members of the Trump campaign collaborated with the Russian government to influence the 2016 election.

"What they did specifically, I have no idea".

Kelly then touched on a few facets of Russia's meddling, which the United States intelligence community said was done specifically on orders from the Kremlin itself.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, while answering questions today at the Truth and Justice media forum organized by the Russian Popular Front in Kaliningrad, said the one thing in history he would like to change is the collapse of the Soviet Union. Kelly mentioned Russia's hack of the Democratic National Committee in the summer of 2016, as well its use of bot-operated accounts to spread intentionally false stories disguised as news on social media, and sow discord throughout the election.

Counterintelligence veterans also largely agreed that, from a practical view, Mueller's charges against the Russians carry little weight because Russia has always been engaged in information warfare with the US.

Kelly, who worked as a corporate lawyer before pursuing a career in journalism, said she did have a law degree. The American military already knew about the weapons Putin referenced and stands ready to defend the United States, she said. "Give us an official request".

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday denied that the 13 Russian nationals accused by special counsel Robert Mueller of meddling with the U.S. presidential elections of 2016 were acting on behalf of the Russian authorities, and then vowed they would never be extradited to stand trial in the United States.

Russia's constitution forbids the extradition of Russian citizens in most cases, and the USA and Russia do not have an extradition agreement. And the U.S. has extradition treaties with more than 100 countries - including Russian Federation.

But when Kelly asked whether Putin would extradite the accused if evidence backs up the Mueller indictment, Putin said he would not.
