Tiger Woods Shoots Even Par in 1st Round of 2018 Honda Classic”

List and Lovemark were at 3-under 137, the highest score to lead at the halfway point of the Honda Classic since it moved to PGA National in 2007.

Alongside McIlroy, two-time Honda Classic victor Pádraig Harrington finished well outside the cut mark after a second consecutive 76 for a total of 12 over while Seamus Power was only one shot better off after a 74.

The 14-time major champion made birdies on holes four and nine after an early bogey, but he found water at the par-three 15th. He was at 7-under 203. Tied 14th, but only those four shots off the joint-leaders Jamie Lovemark and Luke List, a run of good shots could see Woods make an unlikely ascent toward the top.

European - Adrian Otaegui birdied his last three holes and carded a 6-under-par 66 to take a one-shot lead at the Qatar Masters in Doha. He had the lead at 9 under through two rounds of the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges this past October in Korea, but he shot a 4-over 76 in the third round and had to settle for a tie for fifth. That part, I'm going to have to learn. "There are no easy holes out here, so you have to be mentally prepared to play 18 hard holes". After escaping the dreaded Bear Trap, Tiger drained a four-foot par putt to cap an adventurous day and get into contention heading into the weekend.

Woods rebounded with a birdie on the following hole and closed out his round with five consecutive pars. "But like I said, everyone's playing the same greens".

A flared iron into the water short right of the 15th green led to a double bogey and he followed with another dropped shot at the next.

With the usual fan frenzy that accompanies any Tiger appearance, the star of the show got the crowd amped up when he saved a par with a 13-foot putt after finding the rough off the 11th tee.

Having previously failed to realise the expectations that many continue to have for the 14-time Majors victor, there was an unusual serenity to his play as he hit the first birdie of yesterday's round on the 4th.

But the former World Number One, who said his play yesterday was his best since returning to the Tour at Torrey Pines, proved his resilience with one of the best shots of the day at the brutal par-3 17th. But his first putt went about 90 feet and he didn't make the comebacker. He was rolling along until getting bit by a double bogey at the 16th. He was virtually certain to miss the cut.

Woods has now made the cut in two of his first three tournaments of the year. "And they're hard golf shots". He gave a shot back with a bogey on the 16th hole after hitting his approach into a green-side bunker, making his turn at 1-under 34.
