Kushner is pushing back on giving up his access to classified info”

It was not immediately clear how Kushner, the president's son-in-law, would be protected from Kelly's crackdown on interim White House clearances. Porter was eventually forced to resign after two of his ex-wives came forward with domestic abuse allegations.

Kelly distributed a five-page memo Friday announcing that the White House will no longer allow some employees with interim security clearances to access to top secret information if their background investigation has been pending since before last June - a category Kushner falls into.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said earlier Tuesday that Kelly's new security clearance directive would not affect Kushner's work as a top White House staffer. However, even though Trump has given Kelly complete control over changing the security clearance system, sources are convinced that if Kushner were in fact blocked by the policy, Trump would still give Kushner access to whatever information he requested.

Special counsel Robert Mueller's office is investigating efforts by White House senior adviser Jared Kushner to raise foreign financing for his family's company's real-estate project during the presidential transition, CNN reported Monday.

Kushner's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said that the president could intervene to over-ride his chief of staff. "There is no truth to any suggestion otherwise".

Kushner's temporary clearance expires in a week Jared Kushner.

"Everyone in the White House is grateful for these valuable contributions to furthering the president's agenda", MKelly said of Kushner.

Over the past 13 months Kusher's clearance has given him access to classified information including the president's daily briefing and intelligence summary. Porter was given stop-gap clearance even though it later emerged the Federal Bureau of Investigation had informed the White House about the accusations against him.

People praising Kushner said that the man has worked rigorously in the White House after Trump's elect.

The chief of staff has denied singling out Kushner, saying in a statement cited by The Times: "As I told Jared days ago, I have full confidence in his ability to continue performing his duties in his foreign policy portfolio".

"Mr. Kushner's work that he has done will not be impacted and he's going to continue to do the work that he's done over the past year", White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters during the daily briefing.

"I" m not aware of any red flags", Sanders said. "And he'll continue to do the important work that he's been focused on with the previous year".
