Flood risk remains through Wednesday in Metro Detroit

Flood risk remains through Wednesday in Metro Detroit”

The forecast is calling for 1 to 3 inches of rain, which along with melting snow may cause flooding on roadways and low-lying areas, according to the weather service.

We then enter another period of rain chances Friday through Sunday, although the intense atmospheric river of moisture appears to be more focused to our southeast this time, so we're not expecting anything almost approaching what we're getting earlier this week. After an isolated shower on Tuesday, the next round of rain will bring another quarter inch on Wednesday.

That wintry mix will carry us through the morning commute on Wednesday, but no major accumulations of sleet or ice are expected.

Fort Wayne and other portions of northern IN, southwest MI and northwest OH are under a weather service flood watch through tomorrow afternoon. Flood stage there is 52 feet.

A Flood watch is in effect for counties across mid-Michigan until Wednesday afternoon.

The rainfall totals for Macomb and Oakland counties are expected to be around 2 inches. But the watch was dropped early Tuesday for Wood, Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca, and Hancock counties.

An Alert Day has been issued for Wednesday due to the potential heavy rain and flash flooding in the ArkLaTex.

Flash and river flooding are of concern, though river rise is less of a concern in the more drought-stricken areas, the weather service said.

There are already signs of high water in our region, and there is more rain in the forecast. A mix of snow and rain is possible Friday, Saturday and Sunday and there's a chance of snow on Monday.
