Say goodbye to Android Pay and hello to Google Pay

Say goodbye to Android Pay and hello to Google Pay”

Google has officially released the new Google Pay app for Android, which brings all of the company's payments platforms under one umbrella with a new name to replace Android Pay. And we can, apparently, expect to see Google partner with a lot more online and in-store brands in the future. Despite the fact that not all Android smartphones can use this app as it is limited to Google and Nexus devices for now, Google keeps adding new features that may be useful to users (at least those that have and use the app).

The new app merges the capability of in-app, online, and retail purchases of Android Pay with the peer-to-peer (P2P) functionality of Google Wallet, although that won't be coming for another few months, with USA and United Kingdom users getting it first.

Until then, Google Wallet, which has been renamed Google Pay Send, will stick around. Over on The Keyword, Google explains some of the new features that are launching alongside Google Pay. If you already have the Android Pay app installed on your phone, all you have to do it wait for the update to hit and you will see all of the changes that Google has made to the app with the rebranding. The "Cards" tab is where you store all your credit, debit, gift, and reward cards. Cards is the entrypoint to your digital wallet, where you can select the payment method to use at checkout. Google Pay can also be used to pay online for quicker checkout. The tech giant announced Google Pay as a successor that combines features of both the apps into one seamless experience in early January 2018. "We give developers a very simple API to implement Google Pay", Bhat noted, "The API is simple because we are not processing that payment".

Today represents just the first step in Google Pay's big rollout. You can enroll in the beta through the Google Play Store. It is possible that Google continues with the Tez branding for the UPI payments and offers it as a part of the Google Pay along with the standalone app.
