Three law enforcement officers shot in Georgia

Three law enforcement officers shot in Georgiaā€¯

A police officer was shot dead and two sheriff's deputies were wounded on Friday in a small Georgia town by a gunman who was then killed, the county sheriff said.

The Locust Grove officer died at the scene.

Atlanta media reports said a Locust Grove officer and two Henry County, Ga., sheriff's deputies were taken to hospitals, one by helicopter and two by ambulance.

Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes watched on as police officers escorted children home in the Hawthorne at Linden Park subdivision in Locust Grove.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation late Friday identified the wounded deputies as Michael D. Corley and Ralph Sidwell "Sid" Callaway. When he wouldn't cooperate, they called the Locust Grove officer for backup, McBrayer said. "We just need a lot of prayers for he and his wife and the baby that's coming into this world without a daddy because of somebody." the mayor said, choking up.

"The other sheriff's deputy is in fair condition at Atlanta Medical", McBrayer said.

Neighbors told WSB-TV the shots sounded like firecrackers going off.

About three minutes after the Locust Grove officer arrived, there was an altercation, and that's when the officer, deputies and suspect were shot.

"It's scary because you never know who is in your neighborhood".
