Colts officially announces the hiring of Josh McDaniels”

On Monday, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said he has no idea about McDaniels' status.

It will be interesting to see how this hiring affects an offseason that Colts fans have been salivating over since before this past season even began.

Indianapolis made the announcement Tuesday, just two days after McDaniels and the Patriots lost Super Bowl 52 to the Eagles. His failure with the Broncos was so massive that he had to stay away from New England for a year or so before Belichick let him crawl back. Now McDaniels has to prove he can do it as a head coach, because this might be his last chance at it.

There is a slight chance McDaniels might pull out of the running for the Colts job, which explains Pats receiver Danny Amendola's answer about losing his offensive coordinator.

That time just may not be as a member of the Patriots' staff.

Sports Illustrated's Peter King reported that during the week before the Super Bowl, McDaniels took a wrong turn out of his hotel and ended up inside the Mall of America. If Andrew Luck remains healthy, it's one of the more desirable jobs in the league. While there are some concerns about Luck's health, McDaniels must have confidence that he will be ready for next season.

Schefter did not specify what Schuplinski's role will be with the Colts, but I would guess he would become the new quarterbacks coach in Indianapolis.

Now, the AFC South becomes the most interesting division to watch this offseason.

Though they likely had an unofficial agreement, the Colts couldn't announce McDaniels as the head coach until he fulfilled his duties with the New England Patriots. Clearly that's not the case.

In the last week, McDaniels had further talks with the Colts leadership but it was all a formality, at least reportedly, to discuss the transition of leadership and how things would work out after the Super Bowl.

It has certainly bee a hard few days for the New England Patriots.
