After two day delay, Bulls will trade Nikola Mirotic to the Pelicans

After two day delay, Bulls will trade Nikola Mirotic to the Pelicans”

The Bulls will also send back the 2018 second-round pick they acquired from the Pelicans along with Quincy Pondexter before the season, and ironically enough, Pondexter will be waived to create roster space.

Other teams could also be affected by this news, mostly because Allen and Nelson may not be long for Chicago.

Talks between the two sides publicly fell through on Tuesday.

What did the Bulls get in return?

. Let's grade the deal.

New Orleans lost DeMarcus Cousins for the year with a torn Achilles tendon, which sucks on many different levels.

Just days after the trade was reportedly scuttled, the and New Orleans Pelicans have reportedly agreed to another trade that will send to the Big Easy. Bringing in both Monroe and Mirotic is ostensibly an improvement for the short-term.

It has always seemed clear that the Bulls will deal Mirotic before the February 8 trade deadline, and that gave teams negotiating with Chicago the upper hand. Now that the guarantee of salary has been made, the deal can officially go through. With the Jazz feeling like their pick was worth more to them than him, perhaps they sought a third team to supply the pick in some sort of deal, but obviously that kind of transaction wasn't in the cards.

Mirotic and Monroe together capture most of Cousins' skill set, although obviously not almost as prolific and divided between two players.

Anthony Davis happy with the reported deal is alone good news for New Orleans. Since drafting Davis, the Pelicans have continually used draft picks as trade assets. Wojnarowski added Jameer Nelson is also headed to Chicago. It was clear rather quickly after the Mirotic-Portis incident that the Bulls would be ushered toward dealing one of the two, and Mirotic would have been a decent bet to move at the deadline regardless. Asik has two years remaining on his contract, and the final season in 2019-20 has an early termination option. The Bulls are likely getting a much better pick.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports that the Pelicans and Bulls have reached agreement in principle regarding the Mirotic trade. The Bulls knew this because they gave him the contract that guaranteed a no-trade clause. He was a two-time Euroleague Rising Star and a two-time Euroleague second-team selection.
