Jaguar I-Pace to debut before Geneva; cold-weather testing video released”

With supercar looks, sports auto performance and SUV space all in one electric package, Jaguar promises to rip up the rule book when it comes to what drivers expect from an electric vehicle.

The Jaguar I-PACE will support rapid charging (from 0-80% in approximately 45 minutes) and promises to combine sports auto performance with SUV practicality.

Undergoing 1.5 million miles and 11,000 hours of component testing, final winter testing have been taking place in Sweden, where the car's all-wheel-drive performance was tested in Arctic conditions of as little as -40°C.

Jaguar will reveal the production I-Pace electric crossover in a live global broadcast on March 1, the same day that order books open.

Jaguar chooses to remain discreet about the powertrain and performance details. To help deliver this, the I-Pace has electric motors on the front and rear axles and this helps deliver a combined output of 400PS and 700Nm of torque.

The camoflaged prototypes that have been testing on public roads since the 2016 reveal of the concept I-Pace suggest the jump to production won't really alter the looks much at all; however, Jaguar is expected to flesh out the I-Pace's spec sheet at Geneva, offering among other things full pricing info.

Winter-weather besting is particularly important for battery-electric vehicles because cold temperatures can substantially limit the battery's ability to deliver power. This isn't just a concept.

I-Pace recently scooped the most anticipated new auto award of 2018 at the What vehicle? awards. EV batteries don't usually like the cold, but Jaguar figured out a clever solution to that problem.

That's why Jaguar has developed a pre-conditioning system for the I-Pace that ensures it delivers its maximum range, performance and comfort whether temperatures are freezing cold or extremely hot. Last we'd heard, in numbers Jaguar was sharing a year ago, the I-PACE would do zero to 80-percent in 90 minutes on a 50 kW DC fast charger.
