Triple Talaq Bill, poor farmers top agenda, says Modi”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all the political parties to allow the passage of the Triple Talaq Bill in the Budget Session which commenced Monday. Today government made a strong decision that they will ensure passage of talaq bill in the Budget session of the parliament.

Modi also said that "the Budget Session is important and the entire world is extremely optimistic about India".

"We should make use of our system of parliamentary committees and discuss aspects of the Budget".

Both bills carry political significance for the BJP which is a strong votary of the abolition of instant triple talaq among Muslims, a practice declared void by the Supreme Court past year.

President Kovind says he is hopeful that triple talaq bill will be passed by Parliament so that Muslim women can live with dignity.

President Kovind exuded confidence that the government will be able to provide a house to every poor and homeless household by the year 2022.

Meanwhile, the Opposition is planning to raise concerns on rising incidents of rape, the alleged "attack" on constitutional institutions apart from the plight of traders.

A section of the Opposition is also planning to push for discussion on the differences in the top judiciary that prompted four Supreme Court judges to hold a press conference to seek redressal on issues. He said, the government is ready to discuss any issue in Parliament. The session would conclude on April 6. Parliament will be adjourned for recess on February 9 to reassemble on March 5.

The Opposition was represented by Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge, Samajwadi Party's Mulayam Singh Yadav, Communist Party of India's (Marxist) D Raja, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Kanimozhi, Derek O'Brien and Sudip Bandhopadhyay from the Trinamool Congress, and Tariq Anwar from the Nationalist Congress Party.
