Chipper Jones voted to Baseball Hall of Fame

Chipper Jones voted to Baseball Hall of Fame”

Now almost eight years after retiring, Hoffman can add another milestone to his career, the Hall of Fame!

Guerrero became one of the league's most colorful players, putting on a hitting clinic and being named to nice All-Star teams in his 16 year career.

Players had to receive 75 percent or more of the vote to reach the Hall of Fame.

"It would have been great to get in this year, but it looks great for next year", Martinez said on a conference call.

You can debate whether some players should be in the Hall but when you get to the level of a Chipper Jones, it's just plain stupid to leave him off your ballot. And it may be reflective of a new voting pattern that celebrates the kind of statistics that have transformed the modern game. Jones played 19 years, hit more than.300 from each side of the plate, and had a career on-base average of.401.

A move from Taylor High to the bigger Bolles School in Jacksonville led to Jones — real first name Larry — being the No. 1 overall pick in the 1990 draft and by 1995 a key part of the Braves remarkable run of 14 straight division titles. Trevor Hoffman might be the second best closer in MLB history if not top five easy, much deserving for one of the top pitchers ever to throw a baseball!

Statistics are used to judge the two because statistics mean everything in baseball.

Guerrero became the first position player from the Dominican Republic elected to the Hall of Fame.

Consider the case of Edgar Martinez, who baseball writers for years treated as a marginal candidate for induction.

JIM THOME (89.8 percent) Thome hit the quietest 612 home runs in the history of baseball, it seems. Walker made a nice jump in voting this year, rising from 21.9 percent in 2017 to 34.1 percent. "Next year may be the year".

Former Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa wound up with 33 votes (7.8 percent), down from 38 previous year.

Again, there's nothing wrong with using numbers to evaluate careers.

Helton finished his 17-year career with a.316 batting average, 2,519 hits and 369 homers.

Although he spent nine of his 22 years in the league away from Cleveland, the slugger will likely be donning an Indians cap in the Hall of Fame. The meager total keeps Sosa on the ballot at least one more year, prolonging the inevitable.

Wagner was at 11.1 percent with 42 votes.

Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds also came up short in the balloting, although each saw a slight increase.

The number of eligible voters has been reduced in recent years, creating a somewhat younger group that appears more generous in offering its approval. It didn't deliver a World Series championship the way Morris' memorable 10-inning shutout of the Braves had capped his single season with the Twins in 1991, but it marked the signature moment of Thome's successful two-year stint in Minnesota.
