You can now buy audiobooks from the Google Play Storeā€

It's pretty surprising Google hasn't already gone into the business of selling audiobooks, but, as of today, a range is officially available on the Google Play Store in 45 different countries.

Unlike Amazon's Audible, with which it appears created to compete, Google doesn't require a membership to buy audiobooks. We're also told, you can use an Android/iOS device, web browser or a smart speaker/device with Google Assistant on board to listen to the titles you've purchased.

If you use Google Play Books and have been waiting for Google to offer support for audiobooks directly, the wait is finally over.

Google's decision to launch an audiobook store has therefore increased its ability to compete. The developers left no stones unturned as they have successfully integrated all audiobooks with Google Assistant. Over the weekend, a dedicated section for Audiobooks spotted on Google Play, and now the company has made it official. The Google Play Books app will work with the normal touch interface, however.

Google Play Books product management head Greg Hartrell notes that users can "buy a single audiobook at an affordable price, with no commitments".

Now, users can call upon their Google Assistant enabled device to play an audiobook, even with specific timers e.g.

For a limited time, Google will give you a 50-percent discount on your first audiobook purchase. Android Auto support is coming soon.

Family sharing. You can share your audiobooks with everyone in your family through Family Library for no additional fee.

Smart commands such as "Ok Google who is the author?" and "Ok Google, stop playing in 20 minutes", are also expected to make the listening experience pleasant and accepted. Users wanting to listen to an audiobook will be able to purchase literature and have it read on the go. If you're not sure about the book you're buying, you can get a preview and see if you like the way the narrator's voice, because, with audiobooks, that's kind of a major thing.
