Mother, boyfriend sought in torture, murder of girl, 4”

Police are searching for the parents of a 4-year-old Sumpter Township girl who died Monday after being found with severe burns.

Sumpter Township police investigators have filed multiple charges against Candice Renea Diaz, 24, and Brad Edward Fields, 28, including felony murder, second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse and torture.

Police said Diaz and Fields are believed to be driving a black 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier with the MI plate DTR 1854.

The coroner ruled the death a homicide due to signs of battered child syndrome.

Police were called to the Rawsonville Woods Mobile Home Community about 10:45 a.m., January 1 for a report of an unresponsive 4-year-old girl.

Upon arrival, CPR was being administered by family members and officers found the child suffering from what police described as "severe burns about her extremities", the station reports. She was rushed to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, where she was pronounced dead.

A manhunt is underway for Diaz and Fields, and they are believed to be driving a black 2002 Chevy Cavalier bearing MI license plate DTR 1854, pictured below.

Fields allegedly faked a gunshot wound on May 25, 2016 in an incident where he was accused of assaulting Diaz and possibly shooting her dog, police said.

The disgusting home was littered with rubbish, rotten food and pet urine.

Both Diaz and Fields are being charged with murder.

Diaz was able to escape to the community clubhouse to call police, according to the report.

Barrett spoke to WJBK about his daughter Sunday night at a candlelight vigil held in her memory.

He was later arrested on domestic violence charges.

"We didn't know. We would have gone" and removed her from the home, he said.
