White House officials tamp down speculation about firing special counsel Robert Mueller

White House officials tamp down speculation about firing special counsel Robert Mueller”

A lawyer for Donald Trump's transition team has alleged special counsel Robert Mueller unlawfully received tens of thousands of emails, in the latest attack on the credibility of the probe into Russian meddling in the USA election.

The letter says this was a violation of Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable search and seizure. In other words, the best bet right now is that, after catching up people guilty of various, extraneous crimes, the Mueller investigation will leave President Trump relatively untouched.

Trump for America counsel Kory Langhofer told Senate and House lawmakers in a letter Saturday that a General Services Administration staffer "unlawfully produced" the records for Mueller's Russian Federation probe, according to the memo obtained by Axios and Buzzfeed.

Langhofer detailed his claims in a seven-page letter sent to Congressional oversight committees over the weekend. This person reportedly said that the transition, which still exists in order to wind-down the operation, will send Special Counsel Robert Mueller a letter demanding investigators return the emails.

"I was at dinner last night with the President and Vice President". He did not name the transition officials who used the devices.

The tens of thousands of emails in question pertain to 13 senior Trump transition officials.

That assertion was immediately shot down by top Democrats and career law enforcement officials. But he has apparently caught Michael Flynn in a lie about his lobbying activities and may have former Trump campaign manager Steve Bannon on money laundering crimes he committed before he even knew the president.

Mr. Trump's attorneys are embroiled in a fresh spat with Mueller, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director, over his team's reported acquisition of thousands of emails from Mr. Trump's transition team. Officials with Trump for America learned last week that GSA officials had turned over the cache of emails to Mueller's team. He said the agreement was laid out in June before a lawyer at GSA, Richard Beckler, a Trump appointee, who has since died.

CNN is reporting that Donald Trump's personal lawyers will meet with special counsel Robert Mueller next week in order to "gain a clearer understanding of the next steps in Mueller's probe, according to sources familiar with the matter".

Both Mueller's team and Loewentritt pushed back on Langhofer's accusations. What are they afraid was found?

The letter added that a warrant should have been obtained for such materials, and said it violated the Presidential Transition Act. "Baloney. This is another attempt to discredit Mueller as his #TrumpRussia probe tightens", he wrote on Twitter.

Late Saturday, Mueller's spokesman, Peter Carr, said the special counsel's office has followed the law when it has obtained documents during its investigation.
