Bairstow under probe for alleged headbutt on Bancroft

Bairstow under probe for alleged headbutt on Bancroft”

It's understood Bancroft only told teammates of the incident in the past few days and has accepted an apology from Bairstow.

The wicket-keeper is being investigated by the European Central Bank over claims he aimed a butt at Australia ace Bancroft in Perth.

England go into the final day of the first Ashes 2017-18 Test with just 56 runs to defend on the final day with Australia having all their 10 wickets intact.

The matter has arisen at a time of heightened awareness of the off-the-field behaviour of England players, following Ben Stokes' arrest on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm during a fracas outside a Bristol nightclub in September.

Massive news coming in from the Ashes series, as England are reportedly investigating a matter involving wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow and Australian opener Cameron Bancroft, who made his debut in the 1st Test at the Gabba.

The comments, which centred around the pair telling Bairstow "we know what you did to our mate in Perth" might have contributed towards a careless stroke from one of England's best batsmen as they crashed to near defeat.

The incident could have implications for Bairstow, who is now in Brisbane for the Ashes tour.

European Central Bank on Sunday released a statement after discussions with their wicketkeeper-batsman in which they came close to exonerating Bairstow while adding that they will conclude their investigations after the first Test.

Bancroft, who did not play in the match, was at that stage just a fringe contender for the Australian team and joined some of his state team-mates along with a large number of England players at The Avenue bar. The incident allegedly took place earlier this month at a Perth hotel bar while England were in town for a tour match, reports said. It will "follow up" with players after the conclusion of the first Ashes Test.

But he was one of three England players fined by the European Central Bank in the wake of a night out in Bristol that saw Ben Stokes arrested for alleged assault.

Bairstow was apparently sledged by the Australian players, which also invited a send-off from Australia vice-captain David Warner after Bairstow was dismissed for 42. We certainly don't want to keep players in their rooms because it is a long tour.
