Arab League delivers harsh criticism of Iran, little action

Arab League delivers harsh criticism of Iran, little action”

"Our region does not need more crises, we are advocates of peace and not conflicts, we want regional relations based on cooperation and respect for others and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries in accordance with worldwide laws and charters", Safadi said, adding: "This is the message all Arab summits sent to Iran and countries other than Iran".

Currently at a stalemate, the civil war is now witnessing a Saudi-led coalition blockade which is further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the country. Alluding to the November 4 attack, he said it delivered a message to Arab nations that their capitals were within the range of Iranian missiles.

Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil did not attend.

He even went on saying that missile which was sacked by Houthis towards Riyadh was "Iranian made" and called is as an "unacceptable Iranian message".

The resignation sparked a political crisis in Lebanon and put it on the front line of a regional power struggle between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

"Saudi Arabia has succeeded through pressure as well as extensive political and propagandistic hue and cry to have a statement that is full of lies and distortions be issued in the name of foreign ministers of the Arab League", Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bahram Qassemi said Monday, according to Iran's semi-official Press TV.

After resigning, Hariri spent two more weeks in Saudi Arabia amid rumours he was under de facto house arrest there, before travelling to Paris on Saturday.

Bahrain's foreign minister, Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, urged strong action by the Arab League against Iran.

"We say it in clear terms that Iranian threats have exceeded all boundaries and are pushing the region toward the abyss".

The meeting was chaired by Djibouti's Foreign Minister and current chairman of the Arab Council of Foreign Ministers, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo and was attended by 15 ministers and six ministerial representatives.

Aoun has accused Saudi Arabia of holding Hariri hostage. Saudi Arabia and Hariri both deny those accusations.

The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain - who since June have been boycotting the Gulf Arab nation of Qatar in part over its warm ties with non-Arab and Shiite Iran - had held talks in the Egyptian capital ahead of the Arab League meeting set for later in the day.

Gheit emphasized that the liberation of the region from violence and sectarianism is based on changing Iran's approach to the Arab world.

A source close to Hariri said that meeting aimed to "continue the series of Arab and worldwide consultations".
