AC/DC Guitarist Malcolm Young is Dead at 64

AC/DC Guitarist Malcolm Young is Dead at 64”

"With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band", AC/DC posted on its Facebook page late on November 18. Guitarist and songwriter Malcolm Young was 64 years old.

Young and the other members of AC/DC were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. "He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted". "Malcolm had been suffering from Dementia for several years and passed away peacefully with his family by his bedside".

For those wishing to send messages to the family please visit the Sydney Morning Herald Malcolm Young Memorial website which will be available next week.

The band concludes the message with a simple tribute to Malcolm stating that the guitarist "leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever". Their hits included "Highway to Hell" from 1979 and "Back in Black" and "You Shook Me All Night Long" from 1980.

Friends and fans of Young shared memories they had on social media on Saturday. Even so, Angus Young added, "He was still capable of knowing what he wanted to do", and Malcolm set out to relearn his own music for that last tour. "For the first time I'd seen him disorganised, being confused about a lot of things", he said. "He will be missed and my deepest condolences to his family, bandmates and friends". The band would become one of the influential rock "n" roll groups of its era.

In April of 2014, AC/DC announced that Young would be "taking a break from the band to ill health", without disclosing the nature of his illness; in September of that same year, the band revealed that he had dementia.

Malcolm is survived by his wife O'Linda and two children. He last performed with the band in 2014, then stepped aside for his nephew, Stevie, to take over rhythm guitar duties for the band's last tour to promote its 2014 album, Rock Or Bust.

Adams called Young "the engine that roared behind the most powerful band in the world".

Young and his brother Angus created AC/DC in the early 1970s.
