'F--- Trump' graphic on pickup stirs controversy in Texas

'F--- Trump' graphic on pickup stirs controversy in Texas”

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office removed a Facebook post involving the F-Trump sticker photo that went viral.

Nehls posted a photo of the truck Wednesday on his personal Facebook page after he said he'd received several complaints from unhappy people in the Houston-area county.

He wrote: "I have received numerous calls regarding the offensive display on this truck as it is often seen along FM 359". "I simply want to talk to the owner and say, 'Look, the last thing we need to do is have anyone have any confrontation over the language on your truck.' We have not threatened anybody with arrest".

Nehls apparently already sought to impose punishment, adding, "Our Prosecutor has informed us she would accept Disorderly Conduct charges regarding it, but I feel we could come to an agreement regarding a modification to it".

Owner of the truck Karen Fonseca said she was a former employee of the county jail and that she and her husband custom-ordered the sticker just after Trump was inaugurated in January, the Houston Chronicle reported.

But Nehls, who is considering a run for a seat in Congress as a Republican candidate next year, says the sticker is inflammatory. "I don't want to see anything happen to anyone", he said.

Fonseca says her main issue with the president is she disagrees with his promised border wall.

Another commenter, Linzi Bee, wrote, "I've seen this truck, and I would (be) pleased if the owner of this vehicle was prosecuted for disorderly conduct".

Nehl's post has gone viral, garnering almost 10,000 shares and more than 18,000 comments.

Facebook users responded to Nehls' post with plenty of criticism.

Fonseca said that she has no plans to remove the sticker, even though people sometimes shake their head at it and officers have pulled her over before realizing they had no concrete reasons for writing her a ticket. "I think this is more a problem with political speech than actual language". KPRC 2 spoke with a legal analyst who cited the 1971 Supreme Court case Cohen v. California, which overturned a man's conviction who had been charged with disturbing the peace for wearing a jacket that proclaimed the message "f*ck the draft" in a public courthouse. Days later, the charges were dropped after police attorneys conceded that the stick-figure display was protected by the First Amendment.
