Cowboys' Elliott withdraws appeal of six-game ban

Cowboys' Elliott withdraws appeal of six-game ban”

The talented, but troubled, Dallas Cowboys running back has officially made a decision to put his legal issues behind him, announcing Wednesday that he will no longer appeal his suspension in the best interests of his friends, family and teammates.

Ezekiel Elliott is ending his fight against the NFL.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals threw out Elliott's initial lawsuit because it was filed before Henderson issued his appeal ruling.

This is a similar result to what happened with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, just less games and the process was much slower.

"In consultation with the [NFL Players Association] and his lawyers, and after careful deliberation and review of the recent Second Circuit decisions, Mr. Elliott has chose to forego any further appeals and will serve the remaining suspension", Elliott's agents told's Ian Rapoport. This decision arises from a practical assessment of the current legal landscape.

"Mr. Elliott's desire for closure in this matter is in his best interest, as well as the best interests of his teammates, family and friends", said his agents, Rocky Arceneaux and Frank Salzano, in a joint statement. It signaled the three-judge panel want likely to side with the arguments Elliott and the NFLPA planned to rehash.

Ezekiel Elliott is done fighting the NFL.

However, an emergency injunction request by the NFL Players Association on his behalf was denied last week by the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and the suspension was back in place.

The suspension stems from a domestic violence allegation by Elliott's former girlfriend in July of 2016. In the meantime, he intends to release a "final personal statement" about Thompson's accusations and the suspension in the coming weeks. Elliott began serving his suspension for Sunday's game against the Falcons, which the Cowboys lost 27-7.

Elliott has staunchly denied the allegations and the Columbus City Attorney's office announced in September that it would not pursue charges against Elliott because of "conflicting and inconsistent information", however, but the National Football League can punish a player even without legal charges under the "personal conduct" clause. Elliott was never arrested, but on three separate occasions a federal court ruled that the NFL's suspension was warranted.
