Trump on North Korea crisis: I'd never call Kim 'short and fat'

Trump on North Korea crisis: I'd never call Kim 'short and fat'”

Trump followed up his freakish tweet by telling reporters that it would be a "good thing" for him and dictator to become friends. Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend - and maybe someday that will happen!

Bloomberg News reported that Tillerson made the comment to reporters on board a flight from Beijing to Da Nang, Vietnam as he accompanies President Donald Trump on his Asia tour.

On Tuesday, during a speech, he said: "Do not underestimate us".

Tillerson said that eventually there would be a day when the US and the North decide it's a good time to have that first conversation that would lead to negotiations. As North Korea has been an important focal point for this trip, the rogue regime has been spewing vitriol on the regular.

And in a warning directed at young dictator Kim, he said: "The weapons you are acquiring are not making you safer".

"Every step you take down this dark path increases the peril you face".

"Reckless remarks by an old lunatic like Trump will never scare us or stop our advance", the North's Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "On the contrary, all this makes us more sure that our choice to promote economic construction at the same time as building-up on our nuclear force is all more righteous, and it pushes us to speed up the effort to complete our nuclear force".

Asked about the possibility of becoming friends with the North Korean leader during a Sunday joint news conference in Vietnam, Trump did not rule it out. "If that did happen, it would be a good thing for, I can tell you, for North Korea. I don't know if it will, but it would be very, very nice if it did".

The US think-tank said: "Although Pyongyang is outspent by its neighbours in dollar-to-dollar comparisons and defence experts say it operates with raging equipment and technology, the regime's forward-deployed military position and missiles aimed at Seoul ensure that Pyongyang's conventional capabilities remain a constant threat to its southern neighbour".

North Korea conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear bomb test on September 3, prompting another round of United Nations sanctions.

"I think we have to be a little patient here for at least a few months to see what more we and others can do, including China", McMaster said.
