Netanyahu: Resignation of Lebanese President Highlights Iranian Danger”

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Iran-backed Hezbollah, urged Lebanese citizens against any political escalation in response to Hariri's surprise declaration on Saturday, which he made from Saudi Arabia.

The resignation of Lebanese President Saad al-Hariri must be a wake-up call for the world about the aggressive attempts by Iran to infiltrate countries and impose its will on other countries, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said in a statement Motzoei Shabbos.

"Lebanon is a fragile country". This is an indication that the resignation was designed to create tension in Lebanon and the region.

The rivalry between Riyadh and Tehran is clearly spilling over in certain countries, and unless these two regional powers can reach an accommodation of sorts, the Middle East is bound to face more turmoil and disruptions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Hariri's resignation and comments "are a wake-up call to the global community to take action against the Iranian aggression that is trying to turn Syria into Lebanon 2". "The global community needs to come together and stand against this aggression", he said.

"We are living in a climate similar to the atmosphere that prevailed before the assassination of martyr Rafik al-Hariri", he said Saturday, referencing his late father who was killed in 2005, according to Reuters.

Several Hezbollah members are being tried in absentia for the killing by a United Nations -backed tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands.

Hariri's death was followed by a series of assassinations against Hezbollah opponents. Hariri has frequently called on the group to withdraw its fighters from Syria.

"When I took office, I promised you that I would seek to unite the Lebanese and end political division..." Thamer al-Sabhan said in an interview with a Lebanese TV station on Saturday that there are "threats against the prime minister and the Kingdom is keen for his security".

"It is clear that the resignation was a Saudi decision that was imposed on Prime Minister Hariri".

A source close to Ali Akbar Velayati, the senior aid to Iran's Leader, has revealed the secret contents of a Friday meeting between Velayati and Lebanese PM Saad Hariri.

Hariri's speech came during his second visit this week to Saudi Arabia, which is embroiled in proxy conflicts with Iran, including Yemen's deadly civil war.
