Girl jumps from school building”

In a horrific incident in Kerala's Kollam district, a 15-year-old girl who had attempted suicide by jumping from her school building after being allegedly harassed by her teachers died on Monday. She has been identified as Gauri Neha of Ramankulangara in Kollam.

It is learnt that Gauri's sister who was in 8th standard was forced to sit amidst boys as a form of punishment for speaking in the class.

Deccan Chronicle reported that "the girl had objected to her younger sibling, studying in the same school, being punished by teachers for talking in the class". The issue is learnt to have been settled after talks between the girl's family and the school management.

According to The News Minute, the 15-year-old girl's uncle had alleged that the teachers did not even allow her to have lunch.

She was rushed to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, where she was admitted with critical injuries for the last three days. Later, she was transferred to a specialty hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Gauri was purportedly scolded by two teachers for picking a fight with a fellow student. Students affiliated to different political outfits clashed with the police near the school.

As of now, the police has lodged a case against the teachers for abetment to suicide.
