Freed US-Canadian family reportedly leaves Pakistan”

He shared the details of his capture shortly after touching down in Toronto with his wife Caitlan Coleman and their three young children, five years after they were kidnapped.

In the summer of 2012, the couple embarked on a journey that took them to Russian Federation and the central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan and, ultimately, Afghanistan.

"We took care of this family like our own family members and special guests, but after frequent flying of USA drones on Kurram tribal region and its adjoining areas, it was made a decision to move them to a safer place", a Taliban official told Reuters. The ISI (Pakistan's intelligence agency) and the army got between the criminals and the vehicle to make sure the prisoners were safe and my family was safe. Coleman was pregnant at the time, and all three of their children were born while the couple was in captivity.

Even as a child, they said, Coleman loved to travel off the beaten path.

He added that one of his children was in poor health and had to be force-fed by their Pakistani rescuers.

Speaking about the couple's children, Boyle said, "Obviously it would be of incredible importance to my family that we are able to build a secure sanctuary for our 3 surviving children to call a home, to focus on edification", Boyle told reporters.

It remains unknown why the family refused to immediately leave by way of USA -supplied transportation, even to Coleman's father.

"Their security is our absolute priority, and I think we all have to really remember what a traumatic experience this family has gone through, really unspeakable".

"We're pleased that the ordeal they've been through over these past years has finally come to an end", Trudeau said Thursday night during a news conference.

Caitlan Coleman talks in a video while Canadian husband Joshua Boyle holds their two children in a video released by the Taliban in 2016.

Mr Boyle said the Taliban, whom he referred to by their official name, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, had carried out an investigation previous year and found the Haqqani network was responsible for the crimes against his family.

"God willing, this litany of stupidity will be the epitaph of the Haqqani network".

The operation was carried out by Pakistani intelligence operatives - reportedly from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), which has always been a source of mounting frustration and annoyance in the United States - with the army providing perimeter protection, unidentified Pakistani officials told CNN, which also cited them as saying a gunfight broke out with the captors and an unspecified number of them were killed.

On the plane from London, Boyle provided a written statement to The Associated Press saying his family has "unparalleled resilience and determination".

He suffered only a shrapnel wound, his family said.

The family was freed by Pakistani commandos on Wednesday after they and their captors crossed the border from Afghanistan.

Boyle provided a separate, handwritten statement then expressing disagreement with USA foreign policy.

"To pursue personal pleasure or comfort while there is still deliberate and organised injustice in the world would be a betrayal of all I believe, and tantamount to sacrilege", he wrote.

The group also operates like a criminal network, and unlike the Islamic State group, it does not typically execute Western hostages, preferring to ransom them for cash.

He was once married to Zaynab Khadr, the older sister of former Guantanamo Bay detainee Omar Khadr and the daughter of a senior al-Qaida financier.

The Canadian-born Omar Khadr was 15 when he was captured by US troops following a firefight and was taken to the USA detention centre at Guantanamo Bay.

He said they were rescued after "a gun battle in Pakistan".
