United States U-17 Team Takes Care of India, 3-0”

In their Group A opener of the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup 2017 India at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the Capital, the Indian U-17s faced USA and went down 0-3, in attendance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AFC President Sheikh Salman bin-Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and the President of AIFF Praful Patel. There will also be a "Third place match" to determine which of the teams losing the semi-final finishes third.

Andrew Carleton caught the Indian defence off guard in the 84th minute to make it 3-0 to USA. Coach Luis Norton de Matos was not happy with the outcome of the opening game, and he would be hoping that his players put up a better show against the South American giants.

Jitendra Singh and Anwar Ali marshalled the central defence with Sanjeev Stalin and Rahul being the full-backs. He also singled out striker Josh Sargent but added that India had watched enough videos of U.S. play and knew all of their players. "It was the first time (we played such a big match) and being 17-years-old and playing in front of 40-45,000 people was a fantastic moment and playing the match was history in itself".

Not only youngsters, men and women, even in their 60s, were enjoying the game. Left winger Leandro Campaz remained a threat throughout the match. They won a free-kick at the edge of the box but Sargent hit straight at the wall, signaling that the match could be a hard 90 minutes for the Indian defence.

Nothing came out of it though.

Josh Sargent, especially, has been touted as one of the best prospects in the tournament and keeping him quiet will be quite a task for the Indian defenders. He made so many saves early on. But my job as a coach is to prepare this team well for the games ahead.

Defending champions Nigeria will be unable to defend their title as they failed to qualify. Don't lose your head thinking too much.

FULL TIME! India 0- United States of America 3. Underdog Indian side came out in the second-half to find an equalizer.

The travellers doubled the lead in the 51st minute.

At the other end, Komal had a golden chance to halve the deficit when Durkin misjudged a long pass by Suresh.

Acosta was great off the benchIn the second half, John Hackworth brought on George Acosta in the midfield and the team followed better offensively. In the 24th minute, Aniket Jadhav earned a corner kick for India, but Sanjeev Stalin's delivery was met with a fury of American headers to clear away the ball.

The Indian coach decided on a midriff-heavy 3-6-1 format, with only one striker in Abhijit Sarkar, while the U.S. started on 4-3-3.
