J&K: 3 terrorists killed in encounter with security forces near Srinagar Airport”

The state police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Indian Army have been asked to be extra vigilant to thwart any terror attack.

A senior police official said that militants came from the Friends Colony side of the BSF camp.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, Munir Khan said they continued to look for six to seven terrorists and that they needed to "neutralise them very fast".

Some security personnel were also injured. Flight services resumed as well. In the retaliatory action by the troops, 01 Fidayeen also killed.

The gunmen barged into the campus of the BSF's 182 battalion at 4:30 am and took positions in administrative building and JCO Mess. "I personally went to the airport and ensured that the public does not face any problems in catching the aircraft", Vaid said.

Kashmir police chief Muneer Khan said the so-called Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the attack.

Flight operations resumed at the high-security airport after being suspended briefly, with at least one in-bound flight from New Delhi cancelled, authorities said. "As long as Pakistan is our neighbour, such attacks will take place", he said addressing a press conference in the aftermath of the sanitising operations at the camp.

At 3:45am, fidayeen attackers entered the BSF camp located near the Srinagar global airport, following which there was heavy exchange of gunfire.

The attackers breached four layers of security in the highly-protected area housing the Srinagar worldwide airport and a posh neighbourhood where numerous state's Who's Who live.

The police sources said the militants hurled hand grenades and simultaneously opened fire at the sentry posts to sneak inside the camp.

The area also houses training centres of the BSF and the CRPF.
