Holder releases statement about nationwide college basketball scandal

Holder releases statement about nationwide college basketball scandal”

One of those was former University of SC assistant, Lamont Evans, who left the Gamecocks in April of 2016 to go to Oklahoma State.

"As we have already stated, we will cooperate with federal officials and coordinate with the NCAA as we move forward with looking into this matter to the fullest extent".

Auburn University has suspended Person without pay effective immediately.

Among those also charged were James Gatto, director for global sports marketing for basketball at Adidas; Rashan Michel, who runs an Atlanta apparel company; New Jersey money manager Munish Sood; and Christian Dawkins, a former ASM Sports agent who prosecutors said was sacked in May.

They center on allegations involving schemes to steer college players toward financial advisors and sports agents.

According to court documents, Evans said it was necessary to use his influence over the youngsters early in their college careers because many of them are "one and done", meaning they play one year of college ball before joining the National Basketball Association.

Evans was named to the Oklahoma State staff a month later, on April 4. They also said the university maintains high standards of conduct, and that deviation from those standards would not be tolerated. Four of those behind bars were assistant coaches, including one from Oklahoma State, where Underwood previously worked.

He was retained and elevated to associate head coach by current Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton. Underwood hired Lamont Evans to be his assistant coach a year ago. "These are serious accusations that are not consistent with University of SC values". Evans was involved in an investigation into bribes from personal managers to influence players to sign with them.

"We have reached out to the NCAA", Kim said. Evans, a Bahamas native, was told to surrender his passport.

Prosecutors said Person accepted $91,500 of bribes over 10 months from a financial adviser, who was secretly cooperating with prosecutors, in exchange for steering NBA-worthy Auburn players to hire the adviser and buy suits from Michel. He is accused of paying a coach to pay a player to sign with his school. His next appearance will be October 10 in NY.

Following the announcement, OSU officials said they were surprised by the federal investigation involving the nationwide bribery scheme.
