Nikki Haley: Trump's United Nations speech was 'blunt and honest'

Nikki Haley: Trump's United Nations speech was 'blunt and honest'”

A magnitude 3.5 quake struck at 4:29 a.m. ET Saturday 22 kilometers (more than 13 miles) east-northeast of Sungjibaegam, North Korea, the US Geological Survey said.

Tillerson said the measures are the "strongest economic sanctions ever" to target Kim.

North Korea's weakest nuclear test, the first one conducted in 2006, generated a magnitude 4.3 quake.

But this is a far cry from North Korea at its worst.

The bellicose speech came after months of escalating tensions over advances in the rogue weapons programme operated by Pyongyang, which has defied tough sanctions to launch its sixth and largest nuclear test and to fire a series of missiles over Japan.

Until now, the North has not tested its missiles and nuclear weapons together, opting instead to fire them separately - the missiles above ground and the nuclear weapons below.

South Korean shares fell for a fourth straight session on Friday, weighed down by losses on Wall Street and a plunge in steelmakers after media reports that the United States will slap tariffs on the country's steel. Lavrov suggested that a neutral European country could mediate.

He described the exchange of insults between the USA and North Korean leaders was "quite bad, unacceptable".

"I was able to reaffirm that Japan and the US are 100% on the same page", Abe told reporters after the meeting, which lasted about an hour.

China is imposing new limits on trade with North Korea after the isolated country's latest nuclear test. Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime.

"His remarks which described the USA option through straightforward expression of his will have convinced me, rather than frightening or stopping me, that the path I chose is correct and that is one that I have to follow to the last".

European Union ambassadors have reached an initial agreement to impose more economicsanctions on North Korea, going beyond the latest round of United Nations measures, officials and diplomats said.

The latest threats of a bomb-and-missile test coming out of Pyongyang, as NPR's Geoff Brumfiel reported earlier this month, raises the specter not seen since the height of the Cold War.

The North Korean leader earlier labelled Mr Trump "mentally deranged" and a "dotard" while Mr Trump labelled Mr Kim a "madman" in response.

Trump is scheduled to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and South Korean President Moon Jae-in Thursday, two important United States allies on North Korea's doorstop. It did not name specific weapons systems.

Trump appears to be upping the ante following the North Korean leader's comments describing the U.S. president as a "mentally deranged dotard". Then when asked if diplomacy was still a possible, he said: "Why not?"

Tensions have continued to rise since North Korea carried out its sixth nuclear test, prompting a new round of United Nations sanctions.

This was stated by the foreign Minister of North Korea Ri Yong-Ho. Earlier this month, North Korea conducted its most powerful nuclear test to date, drawing stiffer United Nations sanctions.

"Whether or not we can put an end to the provocations by North Korea is dependent upon the solidarity of the worldwide community". French Sports Minister Laura Flessel said France's team would not travel to the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea if its security could not be guaranteed.

The trio agreed to work closely to resolve the North Korea situation, specifically by persuading China and Russian Federation to join in pressuring Pyongyang.
